Peter Janson. Considered a “gifted acoustic fingerstyle guitar player” (Dirty Linen), Peter Janson’s brand of American Fingerstyle music brings world-class solo guitar playing to the concert stage. Reminiscent of American Folk guitar, Celtic guitar and American Roots music, his original and compelling contemporary style is filled with artistry, superb technical mastery, and heartfelt passion. Ernie Hawkins, internationally acclaimed master blues and ragtime fingerstyle guitarist, returns to Acoustic Outfitters on Saturday August 7 for a hands-on-your-guitar workshop. A protege of the late Rev Gary Davis, Hawkins is well know as one of the world’s finest players of Davis-style, Piedmont blues. He prides himself as an excellent teacher and begins each workshop learning the specific interests of each student in order to tailor his presentation of material.
The workshop will covers different styles and song repertoires, as well as the theory behind the music. Hawkins draws on his vast knowledge to offer teachings in Texas blues, East coast ragtime-blues finger picking, and of course Davis-style playing. Phil Harris of the Pittsburgh Magazine calls him “… a passionate man with a gentle spirit and lots of soul.” All levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced players.

Calling all Beginners! Ellen Carlson, fiddle teacher here at the shop is leading a jam just for new players, once a month. Tunes cover numerous styles including bluegrass, blues, country, fiddle tunes and more. Participants are using Song Train tunes, Bluegrass Album band tunes and bringing a variety of other music to the jams. Join us for this low-key and supportive session. Suggested donation of $5 per player.

Flatpickin’ Guitar Workshop
Thursday December 3, 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
John has played with some of the top names in bluegrass from Doyle Lawson to Charlie Sizemore to J.D. Crowe. Known for his powerful rhythm guitar chops as well as his creative and fluid solos, John was featured in the October 2009 edition of Flatpicking Guitar Magazine. The workshop will focus on the importance of balancing the two aspects of guitar playing (back-up and solos) and ways to support other players in a band situation. In addition, John will cover types of percussive rhythm, how to play to a vocalist and determining when to play more aggressivly and when to lay back in the pocket.
This is a hands on workshop – BYO guitar. Call to register; $20 per person.

Acoustic Outfitters Music Shop celebrates 13 years serving the Seacoast music community with an Open House on Sunday, November 22 from 12 – 5 pm. The highlight of the day will be a mini-concert and Fishman electronic gear demo presented by Stephen Mougin, guitarist from the Sam Bush Band. Joining Mougin on stage will be Ned Luberecki on banjo. The afternoon will include refreshments and door prizes courtesy of D’Addario Strings. Join us for the day or just for an hour.
